Last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday was the Riverwalk Festival. It's always the second weekend in July. There are always a lot of activities going on downtown. We walked to check things out on Friday evening and spent a great deal of Saturday doing various things. The duck above is the logo for the festival and be found on things throughout the weekend.
We saw some of these guinea pigs being sold. Very cute idea to display them. They're really painted rocks! We bought two smaller rocks that look a little like our dogs.
We didn't get any food but it was definitely tempting. There were a few vendors selling things.
There was a concert going on while we walked around. Andrew was checking out books at the library's book sale while I took this photo.
Saturday we walked back to the festival again. Andrew was going to walk in the parade. I went to go find a place along the route to stand and wait. This is a shot of the craft and food tents set up from the other side of the river.
Andrew on the far right along with the other members of City Council and the City Manager.
There were also goats in the parade! They were walking with Laurels of Kent who puts on the pet parade, which we would attend later in the day.
As the parade went on storm clouds came closer.
And they got darker. Eventually it started pouring. It lasted about 15 minutes. I got soaked. It was funny watching people run to take cover and still watch the parade. I chuckled when the local queens of various things passed by soaking wet. Their hair and dresses clung to them. I wish I had the smaller camera with me so that I could take photos (since it's water proof).
After the parade we walked around for about an hour and then walked to where the pet parade was being held. Andrew was one of the judges (I volunteered him!). This is nine year old Herbie. He's dressed up as a super hero.
There were also cats in the parade! These two were so well behaved and didn't mind posing for a photo.
This cat is dressed like a duck, which was one of the categories being judged. The cat's panting because he or she is hot and not in attack mode.
There were also two chickens in the parade!!! The two goats were also there.
And here is King Zeus. Such a cool dog and he's part of a cool family. He's a duck hunter.
After the pet parade we headed home. On our way we were able to catch the mayor in the flush tank. For a dollar you got three attempts at knocking a plunger off a stand, which would flush a toilet and get the person below wet.
We were at home for a few hours. We thought about walking back to see the duck race. You pay and get a rubber duck (the kind you'd see at a carnival). If your number wins the race (the ducks are let go and floated down part of the river and then caught again) you win money! We didn't win. We've never seen the ducks being released but we were tired after all of the walking around so we decided to just stay home.
We did go to the fireworks though. We parked sort of near them and then walked the rest of the way. They were shot off over a lake. We walked to one end of the lake and were the only ones there. It was a great spot to watch them. The reflections over the water were really cool. I didn't take any photos though. Maybe next year.
We had fun checking out and participating in (at least for Andrew) Riverwalk Festival this year. I took a lot more photos that you can see in this album if you're interested.
